Repurpose scratched-up Monkey Pod Wood bowls or trays into decorative pumpkins. Apply orange chalk paint, leaving handles as stems, then sand and seal with wax. Finish with burlap ribbon and jute twine tied around the handles.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Look for Monkey Pod Wood items at thrift stores, preferably ones with handles that look like pumpkin stems.
  2. Using a cheap craft paint brush, coat the wood with orange chalk paint, but leave the handle (stem) areas unpainted.
  3. After the paint dries, lightly sand the painted areas with high-grit sandpaper, then dust off the residue.
  4. With a large round brush, apply wood wax to seal and protect the surface, then buff with a clean lint-free cloth until it's no longer sticky.
  5. Cut a long piece of wired burlap ribbon and tie it around the handles of the wood pieces.
  6. Add a knotted piece of jute twine on top of the burlap ribbon, securing it with a dab of hot glue if needed.
