Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at yourcupofcake.com.
These Halloween cupcakes feature a moist devil's food cake base topped with orange-tinted buttercream frosting. Decorate with Tootsie Roll stems and Air Head vines for a cute pumpkin look that's sure to impress.
Ingredients
Directions
- Set your oven to 350°F and place cupcake liners into your cupcake pans.
- In a mixing bowl, stir together the Devil's Food cake mix, 3 eggs, 1/2 cup melted butter (or oil), 1 cup sour cream, and 1/2 cup milk until the batter is smooth. Spoon the batter into the liners, filling each about three-quarters full. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cupcakes cool completely on a wire rack.
- For the frosting, beat 1 cup room-temperature butter with 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar. If the mixture is too thick, add a splash of milk; if too thin, add more powdered sugar. Mix in 2 teaspoons vanilla extract and orange food coloring until you achieve a pumpkin-like shade.
- Pipe the frosting onto the cooled cupcakes. Shape a Tootsie Roll into a small stem and place it on top. Tear a piece of a Watermelon Air Head into a vine shape and arrange it beside the stem. (Check out my video above for a visual guide.)
