These monster cupcakes are perfect for a Halloween party, featuring mummies, ghosts, Jack Skellington, and spiders. Using a basic chocolate cake mix and simple decorations, you can create a variety of spooky treats. Each design uses common ingredients like fondant, licorice, Oreos, and candy eyeballs.
Ingredients
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water. Divide the batter evenly into 24 cupcake liners. Bake for 18 minutes. Allow to cool completely.
- For mummy cupcakes, use white decorating icing to pipe long horizontal bands across the cooled cupcake. Then pipe two small triangles in the center with black sparkle gel. Place one candy eyeball on each triangle.
- For ghost cupcakes, shape white fondant into a ball and roll it out. Cut into 4-inch rounds. Place a round candy or small marshmallow on top of the cupcake. Drape a fondant round over it. Pipe eyes on the ghost using black gel.
- For Jack Skellington cupcakes, spread fluffy white frosting over the cupcake. Using black gel, pipe two large eyes. Then pipe two short lines for a nose. Finally, pipe a long horizontal line across the bottom for a mouth, and add small vertical lines (barbs) to create his grin.
- For spider cupcakes, frost with fluffy white frosting. Cut black licorice into 1½-inch pieces for spider legs. Twist open an Oreo, and press four licorice pieces into the filling on each side of the cookie. Reattach the top. Use frosting to attach two candy eyeballs on top of the Oreo. Place the spider on the cupcake.
