Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at savvysavingcouple.net.
This semi-homemade Halloween cake starts with a frosted white cake. You'll create colored drip effects with neon green and purple frosting, then swirl orange across the top. Decorate with gumballs, shimmer Sixlets, candy eyes, and black pearls for a monstrous look.
Ingredients
Directions
- Take the pre-made 7-inch round white cake with white frosting out of its packaging. This recipe uses a two-layer version.
- Separate the cup of vanilla frosting equally into two different bowls that are safe for microwaving.
- Put the orange frosting into a third microwave-safe bowl.
- Heat each bowl in the microwave for 20 seconds.
- Into each bowl of vanilla frosting, stir in the neon coloring: use green for one and purple for the other. Mix well.
- Using a small spoon, carefully drizzle the green frosting along the top edge of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
- Do the same with the purple frosting, creating a second drip layer.
- Spoon the orange frosting onto the center of the cake's top and spread it around in a swirled pattern.
- Use a pastry squeegee to smooth only the top surface, blending the colors together. Be careful not to disturb the drip effect on the sides.
- Now it's time to add the gumballs as decoration.
- Press the white gumballs and then the orange gumballs into the frosting in a planned arrangement.
- Next, evenly distribute the green shimmer Sixlets and purple shimmer Sixlets around the cake.
- Fill the remaining bare spots with the candy eyes and black candy pearls.
- Optionally, you can add plastic (non-edible) spider decorations to the cake for extra effect.
