This semi-homemade Halloween cake starts with a store-bought white cake. You'll microwave tinted frostings to create drips, then swirl orange frosting on top. Decorate with gumballs, shimmer Sixlets, candy eyes, and black pearls for a monster eye effect.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Take the store-bought 7-inch round white cake out of its packaging; note that it is a two-layer white on white cake.
  2. Separate the vanilla frosting into two bowls that are safe for the microwave.
  3. Place the orange frosting into another microwave-safe bowl.
  4. Heat each bowl of frosting in the microwave for 20 seconds.
  5. Stir neon green food dye into one vanilla bowl and neon purple into the other, mixing well.
  6. With a small spoon, gently drizzle the green frosting around the top edge of the cake to create a drip effect.
  7. Repeat the same dripping process with the purple frosting.
  8. Spread the orange frosting across the top of the cake in a swirled pattern.
  9. Use a pastry squeegee to blend the colors on the top surface only, taking care to leave the drips undisturbed.
  10. After finishing the frosting, begin adding the gumballs for decoration.
  11. Press white gumballs into the frosting in a strategic pattern, then do the same with the orange gumballs.
  12. Distribute the green and purple shimmer Sixlets evenly around the cake.
  13. Fill any remaining gaps with candy eyes, followed by black pearls.
  14. Optionally, add plastic non-edible spider decorations for extra effect.
