This recipe guides you through baking a moist chocolate cake and preparing a rich Oreo-infused buttercream. The final decoration involves arranging Oreo cookies as eyes, attaching candies for pupils, and adding licorice eyebrows for a playful, spooky look.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Heat your oven to 350°F. Prepare a 9x13-inch baking pan by greasing it and dusting the interior with cocoa powder. In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar, all-purpose flour, Hershey's Cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Using a hand mixer, blend in the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until the mixture is uniform, scraping down the sides as necessary. Gradually pour in the boiling water while mixing until fully incorporated. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, then allow the cake to cool completely before proceeding.
  2. Using a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, cream the softened butter and powdered sugar until smooth. Mix in the vanilla extract, salt, and heavy cream until the frosting is creamy. Fold in the crushed Oreo cookies. Set aside a small portion of this frosting to act as glue for the decorations.
  3. While the frosting remains pliable, separate the Oreo cookies and arrange them on the cake with the cream filling facing upward. Apply a small amount of the reserved frosting to attach Junior Mints to the full-sized Oreos and Mini M&M'S to the mini Oreos.
  4. For eyebrows, slice the black licorice nibs into quarters lengthwise and position them above the cookie eyes.
  5. Keep the cake covered when storing. If preparing in advance, frost the cake but delay adding the eye decorations until the day you plan to serve it.
