Our own summary of the original by Lena Abraham — the full post and photos live at delish.com.
This Halloween dessert combines a simple yellow sheet cake with a maple-flavored frosting. To mimic the iconic string lights from the show, you'll pipe three lines of black gel icing, arrange Peanut M&Ms as bulbs, and add alphabet letters underneath each light. It's a spooky and fun treat perfect for a Halloween party or Stranger Things viewing.
Ingredients
Directions
- Heat your oven to 350°F.
- Grease and flour a 12-by-17-inch jelly roll pan. Mix the yellow cake batter following the box directions, then bake according to those instructions until a tester inserted in the center emerges clean. Let the cake cool completely.
- For the maple frosting, cream the softened butter in a large bowl until pale and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until incorporated. Beat in milk, maple extract, and salt. If the consistency is too thick, add milk 1 tablespoon at a time. Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled cake.
- Use black gel frosting to pipe three horizontal lines across the cake—one near the top, one in the middle, and one near the bottom—to represent string light wires. Arrange Peanut M&Ms along each line: 8 on the top line, 9 on the middle, and 9 on the bottom, acting as light bulbs. Under each M&M, pipe a single letter of the alphabet. Slice and serve.
