This project turns pumpkins into charming woodland animals like foxes and raccoons. After cleaning and sketching, you carve the face, paint a base color, and add fur or felt ears and tails. Finally, paint on the eyes, nose, and whiskers for a complete look.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Select pumpkins in various sizes and give them a thorough wash to remove any dirt.
  2. Use a pencil to lightly outline the face of the woodland creature you're making.
  3. With a carving knife, follow your pencil lines to cut out the facial features.
  4. Apply a base coat of acrylic paint—for example, orange for a fox or brown for a raccoon.
  5. Cut ear and tail shapes from fake fur or felt, then attach them using a hot glue gun.
  6. Paint on finishing touches such as eyes, a nose, and whiskers to bring your creature to life.
