Free Harry Potter pumpkin stencils let you craft detailed designs. Follow steps to clean, transfer, scrape, and carve your pumpkin, then light it up for a spellbinding Halloween display.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Start with a clean pumpkin. Instead of cutting the top, slice a square opening about 6 to 8 inches across in the back. Hold the pumpkin over a trash can and use a firm, flat tool to remove the seeds and pulp. Wipe the outer surface with an antibacterial cleaning wipe.
  2. Print your chosen Harry Potter stencil on standard 8.5x11 inch paper.
  3. Place the printed stencil over a piece of graphite transfer paper and attach both to the pumpkin with push pins. Using a ballpoint pen, press firmly and trace every line on the stencil. Remove the paper and carbon, then go over the transferred lines with a fine-point permanent marker.
  4. If your design has shaded grey areas, use the ribbon tool for wide sections and the linoleum cutter for narrow ones to gently scrape away the pumpkin's outer layer. Don't cut all the way through; this lets some light pass but not as brightly as fully carved parts.
  5. With your sharp, pointed serrated utility knife, carefully cut along the marked lines on your pumpkin.
  6. Use a wipe to clean off any leftover marker marks and carbon transfer dust from the pumpkin's surface.
  7. Place a small, bright flashlight, an LED push light, or a corded light bulb inside the pumpkin to illuminate your creation.
