Create your own Artemis costume with white and navy fabrics, gold trim, and faux leather accents. Perfect for Halloween or costume parties, you'll look like you stepped straight out of mythology.

Directions

  1. Measure from shoulder to floor, double that length, then add about 6 inches for ease and seams. Your white fabric piece should be at least that long.
  2. Find the exact center of your fabric and draw a circle matching the circumference of the wearer's head. Cut out that circle.
  3. Locate the center of the fabric along its length. Cut from one end straight to the center circle to create the front opening.
  4. Soften the neckline by trimming the corners of the lower part of the circle into a gradual curve meeting the straight cut line.
  5. Use a serger or zigzag stitch to finish the raw edge of the front opening you just created.
  6. Lay fabric flat, fold it in half so the top of the circle is at the top. Pin gold trim around the neck opening and down the right side of the opening.
  7. Sew the trim onto the fabric edge, keeping the raw edge of the fabric hidden underneath.
  8. Lay fabric flat and folded in half again, neck opening at top, and align side edges evenly. Ensure fabric is right sides together.
  9. Sew along both side edges, but leave openings at the top for the arms to fit through.
  10. Fold the armhole edges over 1/4 inch, then another 1/4 inch, and sew them in place.
  11. Turn the dress right side out; you should have neat finished side seams and armholes.
  12. Even out the bottom hem, fold it up 1/2 inch, then another 1/2 inch, and sew. Press flat with a hot iron.
