This DIY project shows you how to use freezer paper stencils and acrylic paint to decorate baby onesies with fox, bear, or raccoon faces and tails. The method involves ironing on freezer paper, applying paint with a sponge, and heat-setting the design. Detailed steps guide you through creating the face details and a matching tail on the back.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Print the template. Then either trace the main shape and cut it with a craft knife, or use a Silhouette cutter.
  2. Place the freezer paper stencil with the glossy side down on the onesie and press with a hot iron to adhere.
  3. Using a sponge brush, apply acrylic paint inside the stencil with an up-and-down dabbing motion.
  4. Slide a piece of cardboard between the layers of the onesie to stop paint from bleeding through.
  5. Let the paint dry completely.
  6. Cut the inner face stencil from the template and iron it onto the inside of the painted face area.
  7. Use a lighter color paint and dab it over the darker base on the bottom half of the face.
  8. Do the same with a different color paint inside the ear shapes.
  9. Carefully peel off both the large and small pieces of freezer paper from the fabric.
  10. With a small paintbrush, add a tiny triangle nose, two small eyes, and optionally a mouth.
  11. After the paint dries, place a thin fabric layer over the design and press with a hot iron to heat-set.
  12. Cut the tail stencil, iron it onto the back of the onesie, and dab paint inside the stencil.
  13. Let the tail paint dry, then use a small brush to add a darker tip to the tail.
  14. Remove the freezer paper and heat-set the tail paint with an iron.
