You'll need
Directions
- Create the base tier: cut a 32" diameter circle from cardboard, then cut a 26" diameter hole in the center. Cut an 8" wide strip of chipboard long enough to wrap around the circle. Attach the strip to the circle's edge using glue or tape to form the side wall. Cover the entire tier with white wrapping paper, cutting matching circle and strip shapes.
- Repeat the process for two more tiers. For the second tier, use an outer diameter of 26" and an inner diameter of 20". For the smallest tier, use an outer diameter of 20" and an inner diameter of 12". Stack the three tiers to form the cake.
- With the cake assembled, add straps. Put the cake over your body and have a helper measure white ribbon lengths for shoulder straps. Mark where the ribbon should attach, then hot glue the straps in place on the inside of the cake.
- Decorate with frosting: take pink crepe paper (or any color) and drape it over the cake in scalloped layers, hot gluing it wherever it contacts the cake surface to mimic icing.
- Hide seams: crumple standard 8.5" x 11" white printer paper into balls and hot glue them between the tiers to cover any visible gaps. Optionally, cut out sprinkle shapes from colored construction paper and attach them to the cake for added decoration.
- Make candles: roll a piece of white paper into a tube and glue it shut. Cut a 1" wide strip of colored construction paper and glue it in a spiral around the tube. Cut a flame shape from yellow paper and glue it to the top of the tube. Hot glue the completed candle to a headband.
