This Halloween fruit tray includes five different spooky fruit creations: apple monster mouths, monster fruit kabobs, kiwi Frankenstein pops, banana ghosts, and clementine pumpkins. Each is made with simple ingredients like fresh fruit, peanut butter, and chocolate. Assemble them on a platter for a festive and wholesome Halloween snack.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Start by removing the core from a large Granny Smith apple and slicing it into four pieces. Lightly coat each quarter with lemon juice to keep it from turning brown. With a small paring knife, carve an eye-shaped mouth opening in the middle of each piece; it's okay if you cut through sometimes because the peanut butter will hide it. Repeat for all quarters. Use a knife to apply peanut butter along the top and bottom inner edges of the mouth. Place a strawberry slice on the lower lip so the curved part sticks out like a tongue. Then press sunflower seeds into the top inner edge as teeth. Attach two candy eyeballs just above the mouth using a tiny dab of peanut butter as glue.
  2. On a bamboo skewer, alternate threading a blackberry, a blueberry, and a cantaloupe cube. Keep repeating this order until you reach the end of the skewer. Make as many skewers as you like. For a spooky touch, you can attach a candy eyeball to each blueberry with a small spot of peanut butter.
  3. Peel three kiwis and cut them into thick round slices. With a sharp knife, make a small slit at the bottom of each slice and insert a popsicle stick so the kiwi is firmly attached. Arrange these kiwi pops on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Melt 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second bursts until smooth. Transfer the melted chocolate to a small zip-top bag and snip a tiny corner off. Drizzle chocolate over the top half of each kiwi to create a monster look. While the chocolate is still wet, press in two white chocolate chips for eyes and a banana triangle at the top of each head for hair. Use the chocolate bag to add two small dots in the center of the white chips to complete the eyeballs, and draw a squiggly mouth below. Let the kiwi pops sit for 20–30 minutes until the chocolate sets, or speed things up by placing them in the fridge.
  4. Peel both bananas and slice each one in half crosswise. Apply a tiny dab of peanut butter to the back of two candy eyeballs and press them side by side near the top of each banana half. Push the pointed end of a dark chocolate chip into the banana just below the eyes to form an open mouth. Cut a few small triangle notches from the bottom edge of each banana half to create a zigzag ghost hem. Repeat for all banana pieces.
  5. Peel three clementines and remove as much of the white pith as you can. Take a quarter of a green grape (cut lengthwise) and insert it into the small hole at the top of each clementine to mimic a pumpkin stem.
  6. Arrange all the Halloween-themed fruit pieces on a large platter. You can group similar items together or scatter them for a spooky mix. Serve immediately for the freshest taste.
