Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at hgtv.com.
This Halloween tutorial guides you through creating a cat look using two-tone foundation, dramatic black eyeliner, and feline features like a black nose and whiskers. The process involves layering light and dark foundation, building exaggerated eye lines, and adding black details. Complete the transformation with false lashes, cat ears, a tail, and a collar.
Directions
- Take a makeup sponge and spread a foundation much lighter than your natural skin tone over the nose, forehead center, under-eye area, along the cheeks, and onto the chin.
- Grab a clean sponge and apply a dark orange-brown foundation to every spot not covered by the lighter shade.
- With yet another sponge, softly blend the border where the two foundations meet.
- Use black eyeliner to completely fill in your eyebrows.
- Create sharp, angled peaks above the center of each eye for a dramatic effect.
- Draw a thick line along the lower lash line and continue it sideways beyond the outer corner of the eye.
- On the inner side, bring the line slightly downward along the side of the nose.
- Trace the upper lash line and also line the inner corner of the eye.
- Connect the upper line to the lower line at the outer corner.
- Use the same pencil to cover the entire eyelid, extending the color outward past the eye.
- Use a small flat brush to soften and smooth all the lines.
- Paint the tip of your nose black and draw a vertical line from the nose down to the upper lip.
- Darken your upper lip completely with black.
- For a more intense cat-eye look, apply a black eyeshadow over the already black areas.
- With a white cream pencil, sketch a tiny triangle just inside the black point at the inner eye.
- Take a large brush and dust white shimmery eyeshadow over the lighter highlights across the face.
- Trace over the existing eye lines with black liquid eyeliner to make them pop.
- Using the same liner, add about five small dots above the lips on each side for whisker spots, and draw three whiskers extending outward from beside the nose.
- Finish the costume by attaching fun false lashes, cat ears, a tail, and a collar.
