This craft transforms plastic bottles into pumpkin, cat, and ghost planters. After cleaning and cutting shapes, you paint them and add paper cutout faces. It's a fun way to recycle and decorate for Halloween.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Clean the plastic bottle thoroughly on the inside and outside, then let it dry completely. Using a black temporary marker, draw a pumpkin shape on the bottom portion of the bottle. You can choose the size based on your preference and the bottle's dimensions.
  2. Carefully cut along the traced pumpkin outline using an X-acto knife.
  3. Apply a single coat of white acrylic paint to the outside of the cut plastic bottle pumpkin. Let it dry completely.
  4. Once the white base is dry, paint the outer surface with orange acrylic paint and the top with green acrylic paint. After the first coat dries, apply a second coat of the same colors.
  5. Repeat the cutting process with two more bottles to create a cat and a ghost. Apply a white paint coat to both cutouts. For the cat, use black paint for the second coat; for the ghost, apply another white coat.
  6. Since painting details directly on plastic can be tricky, use paper cutouts instead. Print and cut out Jack-o-lantern eyes, nose, and mouth patterns from the template (choose your preferred size) and glue them onto the plastic pumpkin.
  7. Similarly, print and cut out the eyes, nose, whiskers, and mouth patterns for the cat and ghost from the template, then attach them to the respective bottle characters.
