Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at ohlade.com.
This Halloween treat turns simple ingredients like turnovers, chocolate cereal, and marshmallows into an edible graveyard scene. Kids will enjoy lining the box, adding cereal dirt, planting coconut grass, and adorning each grave with a gumdrop tombstone. It's a fun, no-bake activity perfect for parties or classroom celebrations.
Ingredients
Directions
- Start by covering a 10 by 12 inch box top with either aluminum foil or waxed paper.
- Scoop one or two servings of a chocolatey breakfast cereal and spread it evenly over the lined box top to create the illusion of dirt.
- Place a handful of coconut flakes in a bag or container, add a few drops of green food coloring, and shake until the coconut is tinted green. Set this aside for later use as grass.
- Arrange rectangular turnovers (apple or cherry) on the cereal dirt. Slice each turnover widthwise into five equal pieces.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine 20 to 25 large marshmallows with 1 tablespoon of butter or margarine. Microwave for about 30 seconds until melted, then stir. Drizzle this mixture over each turnover piece and sprinkle a small amount of additional chocolatey cereal on top, keeping the graves somewhat exposed.
- Sprinkle the green-tinted coconut flakes over the entire scene to look like grass.
- As a final detail, place a gumdrop at the head of each turnover piece to represent a tombstone. Also create small mounds of chocolatey cereal here and there to suggest recent digging.
