These Halloween fruit tray ideas turn apples into monster mouths, kiwis into Frankenstein heads, and bananas into ghosts. Also included are fruit kabobs and clementine pumpkins. All treats are fresh and fun for a spooky celebration.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Start by coring a Granny Smith apple and splitting it into four pieces. To keep the flesh from turning brown, gently coat each quarter with lemon juice. With a small paring knife, carve a mouth opening near the middle of each quarter, shaping it like a cat's eye; it's fine if you cut through completely since the peanut butter will hide that. Repeat this carving for all four quarters. Use a knife to apply peanut butter along both the top and bottom inner edges of the mouth. Place a strawberry slice on the lower edge so its round side sticks out like a tongue. Then insert sunflower seeds into the upper edge to act as teeth. Attach two candy eyeballs above the mouth using a small amount of peanut butter as adhesive, positioning them side by side.
  2. To create the fruit kabobs, slide a blackberry, then a blueberry, then a cantaloupe cube onto a bamboo skewer, repeating that sequence until the skewer is filled. Make as many skewers as you like. For a spooky touch, you can affix a candy eyeball to each blueberry with a dab of peanut butter.
  3. Peel the kiwis and cut them into thick rounds. With a sharp knife, make a small slit at the bottom of each slice and insert a popsicle stick so it holds firmly. Arrange these kiwi pops on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Melt the dark chocolate chips in the microwave, heating in 30-second intervals until smooth. Transfer the melted chocolate to a small ziplock bag, snip a tiny corner, and drizzle it over the top half of each kiwi slice to create a monster shape. Gently press two white chocolate chips into the chocolate for eyes and a banana triangle at the top of the head for hair. Use the chocolate bag to add two dots in the center of each white chip to form pupils, and pipe a squiggly mouth below the eyes. Allow the kiwi pops to set for 20–30 minutes, or speed up the process by placing them in the refrigerator.
  4. Peel the bananas and cut each one in half. Apply a tiny bit of peanut butter to the back of two candy eyeballs and press them side by side near the top of the banana half. Insert a chocolate chip tip into the banana just below the eyes to form an open mouth. Cut a few small triangles from the bottom edge of the banana half to create a jagged hem. Repeat for each ghost you'd like to make.
  5. Peel the clementines, being careful to remove all the white pith. Insert one quarter of a green grape (cut lengthwise) into the top opening of each clementine to resemble a pumpkin stem.
  6. Arrange all the Halloween fruit creations on a large platter, clustering them by type or scattering them across the tray for a festive display. For optimal freshness, serve the fruit tray immediately.
