Create charming Piggie and Elephant pumpkin decorations using ghost pumpkins, spray paint, cardboard, and felt. Follow simple steps to cut out facial features, paint them, and hot glue everything together. It's a fun Halloween craft for kids and fans of Mo Willems' books.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Start by spraying the smaller ghost pumpkin with coral paint. While it dries, cut out cardboard shapes for the faces (old diaper boxes work well).
  2. You need 14 cardboard pieces total. For Piggie: 2 small ovals (eyes), 1 large oval (snout), 2 small triangles (ears), 2 small moons (eyebrows), 1 large moon (mouth). For Elephant: 2 small circles (eyes), 2 long skinny rectangles and 1 small skinny rectangle (glasses), 1 large moon (mouth). Draw with Sharpie and cut with X-ACTO knife.
  3. Paint all pieces black except: Piggie's snout and ears get coral spray paint; Elephant's two eye circles get white paint.
  4. Cut Elephant's ears and trunk from stiff grey felt. Start with an elongated rainbow shape, place it on the pumpkin, and trim until it fits snugly around the pumpkin.
  5. Use a Sharpie to draw a black rim around each of Elephant's eyes (for glasses) and add two lines on Piggie's snout.
  6. Hot glue all cardboard and felt pieces onto the pumpkins.
