Nutella Mummies Recipe – Easy Halloween Treat - Fabulessly Frugal

This recipe guides you through creating festive Halloween mummies using crescent dough, Nutella, and bananas. You will prepare the dough, fill it with Nutella and banana slices, wrap it in a crisscross pattern, and bake or air fry until golden. The final touches include a sweet powdered sugar glaze and candy eyes for a spooky finish.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Heat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Press any gaps in the crescent roll dough together, then flatten it into a rectangle measuring roughly 11 by 8 inches. Divide the dough into six identical squares. Using a knife, lightly mark three vertical lines on each square to create columns, being careful not to slice all the way through. Then, cut horizontal strips about 1/4 inch wide along the left and right edges of every square.
  3. Spread a generous amount of Nutella down the center column of each square, stopping about 1/2 inch from the top and bottom edges.
  4. Cut the bananas in half lengthwise, then slice each half crosswise. Arrange the banana pieces directly over the Nutella layer.
  5. Fold the outermost top strips down along the banana's sides, and fold the bottom strips up along the sides. Next, take the following top strips and weave them across the top of the banana to create a 'headpiece.' Leave a small opening for the eyes, then continue weaving the remaining strips over the banana in a crisscross pattern until the fruit is fully covered.
  6. Bake the pastries until they turn golden brown, which should take 12 to 15 minutes. Take them out of the oven and allow them to cool completely.
  7. Stir powdered sugar and milk together until you achieve a smooth glaze consistency. Drizzle this mixture over the cooled mummies and let it set until dry to the touch. Finally, attach the candy eyes and serve.
  8. Alternatively, prepare the mummies as described above. Place them in an air fryer basket lined with parchment paper. Cook at 330°F (165°C) for 10 minutes.
  9. Cooking times can differ based on your specific air fryer model, such as the Cosori 5.8qt I used. Monitor the pastries and remove them once the dough and bananas reach your preferred level of golden brown.
