Rich dark cocoa cookies flavored with brown sugar and vanilla get a festive twist from green and purple M&Ms. A brief freeze helps them hold their shape while baking. Best enjoyed warm for a soft, gooey treat.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Set your oven to 350°F (180°C). Cover a 9x13-inch baking dish with a silicone mat or parchment paper. In a bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, dark cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt until well combined.
  2. In a separate large bowl, use a stand mixer or hand mixer to cream together softened unsalted butter, vanilla extract, dark brown sugar, and black gel food coloring (if using) until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and fold together using a rubber or silicone spatula. Pour in the milk and continue folding until a dough forms. If the dough seems too runny, add a little more flour. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and freeze for 5–10 minutes. Afterward, use a cookie scoop to form balls, then flatten them slightly with the back of a spoon or spatula.
  4. Press a few green and purple M&M candies onto the top of each dough ball. Bake for 11–12 minutes.
  5. As soon as the cookies come out of the oven, press additional M&Ms onto the tops. Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool to room temperature. Serve warm with a cold glass of milk.
