This guide outlines two approaches for creating a festive cushion: a permanent bond using adhesive or tape for new covers, and a removable attachment via pins and transparent thread for existing pillows. The process involves backing the design, cutting the shape, bonding three sides, stuffing with fiberfill, and sealing the final opening.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Choose your preferred method for attaching the fabric to the cushion. If you are using a new cover, you can bond it permanently using adhesive tape or a glue gun. Since I am working with an existing pillow that I want to keep versatile, I will secure the fabric with pins and then stitch it down using transparent thread.
  2. Trim a section of backing fabric so it extends slightly beyond the edges of your pumpkin design. Press it flat with an iron to eliminate creases. Place the decorative mat face-down on the prepared backing and trace its outline. Use pinking shears to cut out the traced shape.
  3. Position the decorative mat over the cut backing fabric. Apply adhesive along three edges to bond the layers together. Wear protective gear on your fingertips to prevent burns from the hot adhesive. Keep one side unglued to create an entry point for the filling.
  4. Insert the stuffing material through the remaining opening. Add more filling as needed until the cushion reaches your desired fullness.
  5. Seal the final opening with adhesive to complete the shape.
