This recipe transforms leftover Halloween candy into a festive twist on classic rice cereal treats. Chopped chocolate candies are frozen then layered into a buttery marshmallow and cereal base, creating a crunchy, sweet dessert. Let the bars set before cutting into nine generous squares.
Ingredients
Directions
- Prepare a 9-inch square pan by lining it with two sheets of parchment paper, then sprinkle 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar evenly over the bottom.
- Chop 2 ½ cups of mixed chocolate Halloween candy into small pieces, then place them in the freezer until you're ready to use them.
- In a large nonstick pot, melt 6 tablespoons of salted butter over medium-low heat. Reduce the heat to low, add 10 cups of mini marshmallows, and stir constantly until completely melted. Mix in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Stir in 7 cups of rice cereal until well combined. Remove the pot from the heat and let the mixture cool for a couple of minutes.
- Transfer half of the cereal mixture to the prepared pan and press it into an even layer. Sprinkle 2 cups of the chopped frozen candy over the top, then cover with the remaining cereal mixture and spread evenly. Finish by topping with the remaining ½ cup of candy.
- Allow the treats to set at room temperature for 2 hours, or in the refrigerator for 1 hour. Cut into 9 bars and serve.
