- Head to your local craft shop or online retailer to grab a foam or styrofoam pumpkin.
- Sketch your chosen face or message directly onto the surface with a pencil or pen, or trace over a printed template if you prefer a guide.
- Carefully slice an opening at the base of the pumpkin to create a space for your illumination.
- Trace your drawn lines with a serrated blade, moving deliberately to carve out the shapes.
- Place your preferred light source—such as a string of lights, battery-operated candle, tea light, glow stick, or LED candle—inside the hollowed-out pumpkin.
