Easy Cauldron Cookies - Semi Homemade Kitchen

These cauldron cookie cups start with a Devil's Food cake mix base baked into mini muffin pans. After cooling, they're filled with a green-tinted buttercream and decorated with sprinkles, candy eyeballs, and pretzel stick stirrers for a fun Halloween treat.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Set your oven to 350°F and lightly coat three mini muffin pans (each with 12 wells) with grease.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, eggs, oil, and black food coloring (if you'd like darker cookies) until the mixture is uniform.
  3. Drop about half a tablespoon of dough into each muffin well and press it flat using your fingers.
  4. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until the edges look set. As soon as you remove them, press the back of a 1-tablespoon measuring spoon into each warm cookie to form a well. Let the cookies cool completely.
  5. While the cups cool, prepare the buttercream. Beat the butter until smooth and creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt, beating until combined. Add milk a tablespoon at a time until the frosting is smooth and can be piped. Stir in green food coloring until you reach the desired shade.
  6. Pipe the green buttercream into the wells of the cooled cookie cups, filling them so it looks like bubbling potion.
  7. Top with green round sprinkles, candy eyeballs, and any Halloween sprinkles. Break pretzel sticks in half and poke one into each cup to act as a stir stick.
  8. Serve these spooky treats and enjoy!
