This tutorial shows you how to make a felt ghost puppet using a free pattern. You'll cut two felt pieces, sew them together, turn them, and add black felt eyes. The result is a friendly ghost puppet perfect for Halloween play.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Begin by printing the free ghost puppet pattern from the provided link.
  2. Pin the pattern onto a sheet of white felt, then cut out the ghost shape. You'll need two identical pieces, one for each side of the puppet.
  3. Place the two felt pieces with their right sides facing each other. Sew around the entire ghost shape, leaving a small opening for turning. Use a 1/4-inch seam allowance and go slowly around curves to keep them smooth.
  4. After stitching, snip small notches into the seam allowance along all curved areas, especially at the inner corners where arms join the head. This prevents wrinkling when you flip it.
  5. Turn the puppet right side out using a wooden dowel or skewer, pushing gently into all the corners to fully shape them. Once turned, press the puppet with a warm iron, placing a cloth over the felt to protect it from melting.
  6. Cut two eye circles from black felt or iron-on vinyl. Position them on the ghost's face, then attach using fabric glue or by ironing the vinyl in place. Both methods give good results.
