Use pumpkin stencils to create a unique Halloween tablecloth. Choose designs, cut stencils, trace onto fabric, and paint with markers or brushes. Customize with colors, patterns, or turn designs into standalone art with colored pencils or crayons.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Pick which stencil designs you'd like to use. Browse the Pumpkin Pattern Gallery for a wide selection to craft a custom tablecloth.
  2. Print the patterns from the pumpkin carving gallery and cut out the shapes to make stencils. Since cutting can be tricky for children, an adult should handle the scissors or blades.
  3. Place the stencil on the tablecloth and lightly trace the design with a pencil.
  4. Fill in the outlined design with your preferred colors. Paint markers are recommended, but acrylic or fabric paint with a stiff-bristled brush also works well.
  5. Continue with each stencil and color until the tablecloth is complete. Arrange the designs in a regular repeating pattern or mix them up. The example used four stencils and five colors in a repeating grid.
  6. Your tablecloth is ready for a Halloween or fall party.
  7. For a more Halloween feel, start with a black or orange tablecloth instead of white. Bright colors stand out on any background; similar colors to the tablecloth give a subtle look.
  8. If a whole tablecloth seems daunting, or you want more fun, turn a pumpkin design into art. Same process, just trace on paper instead of fabric.
  9. Create an art piece with colored pencils instead of paint—it's a fun no-mess activity.
  10. Crayons also work great for these art projects. They complement the tablecloth or can be standalone activities. Have fun with them!
