Halloween Party Game: Pumpkin Pickin' | HGTV

This DIY Halloween game repurposes a flat-screen TV box into a festive prize station. By creating a kraft paper template, cutting pumpkin-shaped openings, and decorating with felt-covered shipping boxes, you'll have an interactive activity for parties. It combines crafting with play, letting kids pick pumpkins to find candy or small toys inside.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Start by cutting a piece of kraft paper to match the dimensions of your TV box. Fold it in half along the length and then along the width to mark the center points. Next, bring the top and bottom edges to the center crease and press firmly. This yields a grid of 8 rectangles, which you'll use to plan the arrangement of your square boxes.
  2. Cut a 5.5-inch square from card stock as a guide. Using this template, trace squares onto the kraft paper where each shipping box will go, ensuring at least a 1-inch gap between them. Mark "top" at the top of the paper. Then cut out the traced squares with a craft knife or scissors, leaving the surrounding paper intact as a frame.
  3. Attach the kraft paper template to the front face of the TV box with tape, aligning the "top" label upward. Through the cut-out squares, sketch pumpkin-like rounded shapes onto the cardboard underneath. Take off the template and carefully cut out these pumpkin shapes with a craft knife.
  4. Flip the template and place it on the back of the TV box, with the template's front side down and the "top" label matching the box's top. Trace around the squares with a permanent marker, then cut out those squares with a craft knife. After that, paint the whole exterior of the box with flat black paint.
  5. With a craft knife and ruler, trim the flaps of each shipping box down to a height of 1 inch. Cut twelve pieces of orange felt, each measuring 6 by 7 inches. These will serve as pumpkin-colored covers. Glue a felt piece onto the outer flap of each shipping box, using clothespins to hold it in place while the glue dries.
