Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at gritsandpinecones.com.
These spooky spider deviled eggs are a festive Halloween appetizer. Hard-boiled eggs are filled with a creamy yolk mixture, then topped with olive halves and thin olive strips to form spider legs. Candy googly eyes add a playful touch right before serving.
Ingredients
Directions
- Slice each hard-boiled egg lengthwise, creating two halves.
- Carefully scoop out the yolks into a small bowl. Add 1 tablespoon mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon mustard, and a pinch of kosher salt. Mash with the back of a spoon until smooth. If the mixture seems too dry, stir in about half a teaspoon more mayonnaise.
- Using a small spoon or cookie scoop, fill each egg white half with the yolk mixture. Cut three large pitted black olives in half lengthwise. Place one olive half, cut side down, onto the yolk filling of each egg to form the spider body.
- Slice the remaining olive halves lengthwise, then slice each half horizontally into thin strips to create eight spider legs per olive half. You'll need enough legs for all spiders.
- Arrange three legs on each side of the olive body, pressing them gently into the yolk mixture. Repeat for all eggs. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. Just before serving, press two candy googly eyes onto each olive body.
