This guide walks you through creating a cozy crochet pumpkin using half-double crochet stitches, fiberfill stuffing, and a wooden stem. With just a few rows and simple finishing techniques, you will have a festive fall decoration ready in no time.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Create a slip knot leaving a 6-inch tail, then chain 17 stitches.
  2. Row 1: Work half-double crochet stitches into the back loop only of the second chain from the hook, continuing across. Chain 2, turn, and count 15 stitches.
  3. Row 2: Half-double crochet into the back loop only across the row. Chain 2, turn, and count 15 stitches. Repeat this row until you reach 20 total rows. Keep the working yarn attached and set the piece aside temporarily.
  4. Flip the work so the initial tail faces forward. Fold the fabric in half. Insert your hook into the back loop of the side facing you, then into the front loop of the opposite side. Yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook. Continue this across the top edge. At the end, cut a 6-inch tail, pull it through the final loop, and secure.
  5. Thread one end of the tail onto a tapestry needle. Weave it through the top loops along the bottom edge, inserting the needle from top to bottom. Gently tug as you go to gather the opening. Once you return to the start, pull tight to close the hole completely. Weave in the end and fasten off.
  6. Stuff the pumpkin with fiberfill until it is full but not overly tight.
  7. Close the top opening using the same weaving method as the bottom. Weave the tail through the top loops to secure. Insert the needle through the center of the piece and push it through the center of the opposite side. Pull snug to create a slight curve. Secure by stitching under a few closing loops, then fasten off.
  8. For the leaves, chain 20 stitches. Work single crochet across the chain and fasten off.
  9. Attach a natural wood stem to the top using hot glue. Tie the finished crochet leaves around the stem.
