This costume uses a red sweatshirt, black felt spots, and a tulle skirt to create an adorable ladybug look. The steps are simple and can be adjusted for any child's size. It's a fun and creative project for Halloween.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Start by washing the sweatshirt. Use a circular item like a lid or can to trace circles on black felt with a chalk pencil, then cut them out. Pin these circles randomly on the front and back of the sweatshirt, sew around each circle, remove pins, and clip loose threads.
  2. Measure your child's waist and mark that length on the black elastic. Cut the elastic at the mark. Cut two 20-inch strips of black ribbon, fold one over each end of the elastic, pin, and sew.
  3. Cut the red tulle into roughly 10-inch pieces (adjustable for child's size). Cut the black tulle into 8-inch pieces. For efficiency, layer multiple sheets of tulle before cutting. Stack eight red layers and two black layers, gently ruffle them, and sew straight onto the bottom of the sweatshirt.
