These Meatball Mummies are a fun and festive Halloween appetizer. Ground beef meatballs are baked, then wrapped in puff pastry strips and baked again until golden. Finished with olive slice eyes, they're served with marinara sauce for dipping.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Heat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, salt, and pepper until thoroughly combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into 16 small meatballs, each about the same size.
  4. Arrange the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Bake them for 15 to 20 minutes, until they are fully cooked.
  6. While the meatballs bake, roll out the puff pastry and cut it into 8 strips.
  7. Take the meatballs out of the oven and allow them to cool a bit.
  8. Wrap each meatball with a strip of puff pastry, leaving small gaps to mimic a mummy's wrappings.
  9. Brush the pastry strips with the beaten egg.
  10. Return the wrapped meatballs to the oven and bake for another 10 to 15 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown.
  11. Let them cool for a few minutes.
  12. Press two black olive slices onto each meatball to form the eyes.
  13. Serve the meatball mummies with marinara sauce for dipping.
