These dark cocoa cookies are made extra festive with green and purple M&Ms, perfect for Halloween. The dough is chilled briefly before baking to ensure a chewy texture, and extra candies are added on top after baking for a vibrant finish. Serve them warm with milk for a delightful seasonal treat.
Ingredients
Directions
- Heat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a 9x13-inch baking dish with a silicone mat or parchment paper. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, dark cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter, vanilla extract, dark brown sugar, and black gel food coloring (if using). Use a stand mixer or hand mixer to cream the mixture until soft and fluffy.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and fold together with a rubber or silicone spatula. Pour in the milk and continue folding until a dough forms. If the dough seems too thin or runny, sprinkle in a little more flour and mix until the consistency is right. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and freeze for 5 to 10 minutes. After chilling, use a cookie scoop to portion out balls of dough, then gently flatten each one with the back of a spoon or spatula to achieve the perfect shape.
- Press a few green and purple M&M candies onto the top of each dough disc. Bake the cookies for 11 to 12 minutes.
- Immediately after baking, press a few more M&M candies onto the warm cookies. Transfer them to a wire rack to cool to room temperature. Serve with a glass of milk while still warm.
