This project guides you through creating decorative witch legs using a picture frame, various fabrics like Neon Lime Chevron and black grosgrain, and embellishments such as lace, hot glue, and orange pom-pom flowers. The process involves pleating tulle for the skirt, adhering ribbons and lace for the legs and cuffs, and attaching shoe details with heat-activated adhesive and glue.
You'll need
Directions
- Press the chosen fabric with an iron to remove any wrinkles.
- Remove the cardboard backing from your picture frame; this will serve as a measuring guide for cutting the material.
- Trim the fabric to the desired dimensions.
- Position the frame directly onto the fabric to visualize the final shape and size of the witch legs.
- Gather the netting or tulle in your hand and pleat it back and forth, similar to folding a paper fan.
- Once fully pleated, the gathered skirt should resemble the reference image showing the folded texture.
- Slide the folded top edge of the skirt between the frame and the fabric backing. The cardboard remains behind the fabric to provide a stable surface for assembly.
- For a striped effect, you could combine different ribbons, but this project uses a solid Neon Lime Chevron fabric for the legs.
- Adhere the ribbon to the Heat n Bond according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Cut the ribbon to the required length.
- Iron the ribbon onto the fabric to secure it in place.
- Measure and cut a section of lace, roughly 7 to 8 inches long, adjusting the length based on your preferred ruffle volume.
- Pleat the lace strip back and forth to create a fan-like texture.
- Apply a narrow line of hot glue along the designated cuff area.
- Press the pleated lace onto the glue, adding extra adhesive as needed to achieve the desired lay.
- Iron the 3 1/2-inch black grosgrain ribbon onto the Heat n Bond following the package directions.
- Flip the ribbon over and sketch a witch shoe shape freehand, or trace a printed template onto the adhesive side.
- Cut out the shoe shapes from the ribbon.
- Iron the shoes onto the legs and lace cuff, using the Heat n Bond to bond them. Apply firm pressure over the lace area to ensure the shoes sit flat.
- Attach the Festive Fuchsia ribbon with white Swiss dots to the shoe using a thin line of hot glue on the back.
- Secure the two Orange Pom Posy flowers to the shoe with hot glue.
- Your witch legs decoration is now complete!
