This adult Halloween makeup tutorial guides you through creating a mermaid look using a fishnet stocking technique to achieve realistic scales. Start with a flawless base, then layer blue cream foundations and shimmering shadows before removing the fishnet. Finish with detailed brows, shimmering eyelids, purple accents, and a bold blue cat eye.

Directions

  1. Start by applying a natural foundation and matching concealer to cover any blemishes, then set everything with a loose powder for a soft finish. Sweep a pink blush over your cheekbones.
  2. Take a pair of regular fishnet stockings and cut off one leg, then cut off the foot end to form a tube. Gently stretch the widest part of the hose over your face. Using a brush, sponge, or your finger, dab the blue cream foundation around your eyes, brows, and cheekbones, taking care to keep the fishnet from shifting. Add light blue cream foundation, fading it above the brows and below the cheekbones. Set the cream foundation with shimmering eyeshadows in similar shades. Use a fluffy eyeshadow brush to lightly dust the color, replicating the fade effect. Start with blue eyeshadow, then fade to aqua. Finally, dust silver/white mineral shimmer eyeshadow over the entire design to reflect light like real fish scales, applying extra shimmer at the edges where the design fades. Gently remove the fishnet to reveal the scales.
  3. Use a brush and blue cream foundation to detail your eyebrows, then set them with a touch of eyeshadow. Brush silver/white mineral shimmer eyeshadow across your eyelids and into the inner corners of your eyes. Apply purple eyeshadow to the outer eyelids, fading inward toward the silver/white shimmer. Mirror the purple shadow under your eyes. Create a dramatic cat eye with bright blue liquid eyeliner, making it thick enough to show once false lashes are applied. Line the waterline with a blue pencil liner to match.
