Directions
- Gather your plastic creepy-crawly toys. Using a low-temp hot glue gun, apply a line of glue to one insect and press it onto a small terra-cotta pot. Hold for a few seconds; the toy won't be fully attached yet—just enough to stay put.
- In a small dish, combine black latex paint, baking soda, and school glue to form a paste. (Pro tip: use inexpensive sample-sized latex paint from a hardware store.) Brush this mixture over the toy and the pot, filling any gaps between the insect and the clay. Let it dry for 8–10 minutes, then lightly tap off any excess with a dry brush.
- In a separate dish, mix black latex paint with baking soda until it reaches a paintable thickness. Apply two more coats to the entire pot, allowing each to dry fully. Finish by spraying the planter with matte acrylic protective spray. Add real or artificial plants, then display your creepy-crawly planter on a bookshelf.
