This project guides you through painting a basket orange, arranging dried stems and flowers, adding a foam jack-o'-lantern face, and incorporating battery-operated lights for a glowing fall display.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Apply a coat of orange acrylic or spray paint to the exterior of your basket. This is a perfect task for little hands to help with!
  2. Trim the dried wheat stalks or twigs so they extend slightly higher than the blooms in your pot.
  3. Secure the trimmed stalks to the wooden dowel using the green ribbon. Ensure the dowel extends a few inches below the tied stems to anchor it properly.
  4. Insert the dowel into the soil at the center of the flower pot. Arrange the ribbon bow to match the height of the flowers, ensuring the wheat or sticks rise just above the foliage.
  5. Trace and cut a classic jack-o'-lantern face design from the black craft foam.
  6. Attach the foam face to the painted basket using hot glue.
  7. Coil the battery-operated lights around the dowel to mimic a stem, then scatter the remaining lights among the flowers.
  8. Switch on the lights as evening falls to showcase your handmade autumn decoration.
