Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at kidfriendlythingstodo.com.
This simple project uses brown paper bags, newspaper, and paint to create festive fall decorations. Kids stuff the bags, twist the tops into stems, and paint them orange and green. Once dry, they can add Jack-O-Lantern faces for extra fun.
You'll need
Directions
- Crumple up sheets of newspaper into balls and stuff them into the bottom of each paper bag.
- Pinch the bag about 2 inches from the top, twist it closed, and fasten it with a green pipe cleaner. To keep the pipe cleaner paint-free, you can use a twist tie instead and swap it for the pipe cleaner once the pumpkin is dry.
- Cover your work surface and have kids wear paint smocks or old clothes to protect from spills.
- Squirt a little orange and green tempera paint onto separate paper plates so kids can easily dab their sponge brushes and avoid using too much paint.
- Have kids hold the stem (twisted top) and paint the bottom part of the bag orange.
- Then let them paint the twisted stem area green.
- Set the bags aside to dry completely.
- Once dry, kids can optionally draw or glue on Jack-O-Lantern faces to decorate their pumpkins.
