EASY DIY HALLOWEEN TREE

This project guides you through creating a DIY Halloween tree using a large branch, black acrylic paint, and a hot glue gun. You will paint pinecones with orange and black acrylics, craft bats and spiders from felt and yarn, and arrange everything in a transparent vase with plastic pumpkins and preserved moss. Optional string lights can enhance the spooky ambiance.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Begin by selecting a substantial branch for your centerpiece. If you find one that is too large or asymmetrical, simply trim it down or attach smaller twigs using a hot glue gun to create a fuller, more balanced silhouette.
  2. Apply two coats of black acrylic paint to the prepared branch. While a single layer might seem sufficient, the wood often absorbs the pigment, so a second coat ensures a rich, opaque finish. Allow the branch to dry completely before proceeding.
  3. Prepare your pinecones by painting them with orange and black acrylics. For a quicker application and a rustic, textured look, roll the pinecones over a paint-soaked sponge rather than using a brush.
  4. Create bats by wrapping black yarn around your fingers to form the body, then securing the center. Attach felt wings and ears to complete the shape. For spiders, use a small piece of felt for the body and crisscross thin felt strips for the legs. Feel free to experiment with dark purple felt if black is unavailable.
  5. Place the dried branch securely in a tall, transparent vase. Ensure the branch is stable to prevent tipping. Layer the painted pinecones at the base, adding small plastic pumpkins and preserved moss for texture.
  6. Wrap white yarn around the branches in a looping pattern to simulate a spider web. Glue the felt spiders onto the web and hang the bats throughout the arrangement, adjusting their placement for a natural, balanced look. Add any additional Halloween accents, such as mini ghosts or witch brooms, to finish the display.
