Garlicky Black Bean Spaghetti Spoons With Deviled Eyes

Directions

1. Using the larger tube, press down on the top of a hard-boiled egg to cut a circular plug for the iris. Lift out the egg white plug. With a fine brush, paint the plug with food coloring diluted in water to create an iris color. Let the paint dry.
2. With the smaller tube, cut a hole in the center of the painted iris. Then use the same tube to cut a pupil shape from a jumbo black olive. Insert the olive pupil into the hole of the iris.
3. Slice off the bottom third of the egg so it can sit snugly in a serving spoon. Save any yolks that come out for later use in the spaghetti.
4. From the top of the egg, scoop out a small bit of yolk to create a cavity. Squeeze garlic mayonnaise into the hollow, then place the completed iris plug back on top.
5. Paint thin, wavy lines of red food coloring around the iris to look like bloodshot veins. Allow the paint to dry completely.
6. Prepare unflavored gelatin according to package directions. Once it begins to thicken slightly, brush a thin layer over the whole eye to give a realistic glossy sheen.
7. In a medium bowl, mix together the olive oil, minced garlic, finely chopped fresh herbs, salt, and red chili flakes. Add the cooked and drained black bean spaghetti and toss well. Sprinkle grated hard-boiled egg yolk over the top.
8. Arrange a portion of the spaghetti in decorative serving spoons. Place one deviled eye in the center of each spoon.
