This DIY craft turns card stock and construction paper into a fun flipbook with interchangeable jack-o’-lantern faces. Kids can mix and match eyes, noses, and mouths by flipping the cut sections, creating countless silly or scary pumpkin expressions.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Cut six pieces of card stock paper to 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches each.
  2. Cut a piece of decorative paper to the same size (4.5" x 6.5") for the cover. Fold it in half lengthwise. Decorate the cover as desired.
  3. Fold each card stock page lengthwise with a 1-inch fold. Insert these folded pages into the cover to form the spine. Use a ruler to sharpen the crease.
  4. Make an oval template measuring about 5 inches by 3.5 inches. Use it to trace six ovals onto orange construction paper. The template ensures uniform face shapes.
  5. Cut out the ovals and glue one onto each card stock page. Align the ovals carefully so they line up when the book is flipped.
  6. Divide each page horizontally into three sections: top (2.5 inches for eyes), middle (1 inch for noses), and bottom (2.5 inches for mouths). Cut along these lines, stopping at the folded spine.
  7. Staple the 1-inch folded section of the card stock pages to the cover.
  8. Cut eyes, noses, and mouths from black construction paper. Use triangles for eyes and noses, and shapes like smiles or frowns for mouths. Ensure eye and mouth pieces are under 2.5 inches tall and nose pieces under 1 inch.
  9. Glue the facial features onto the appropriate sections of each page using a glue stick.
