Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at rhythmsofplay.com.
This Halloween craft combines drawing, glue, salt, and watercolors to make textured pumpkin art. Kids trace a pumpkin outline with glue, cover it with salt, then paint the salt to create a raised, colorful design. It's a simple, mess-friendly activity for all ages.

Directions
- On black or white cardstock, draw a Halloween pumpkin outline using a white or orange colored pencil. Younger children may need assistance, while older kids can do this independently. You can include a Jack-o'-Lantern face or keep it simple.
- Immediately after drawing, trace the pumpkin outline (and any face features) with white glue. If using a Jack-o'-Lantern face, you can either trace its outline or fill the eyes and mouth with glue. Do not let the glue dry.
- Place the paper on a cookie tray or baking sheet. Sprinkle table salt generously over the glue lines, covering them completely. Do this while the glue is still wet.
- Shake off the excess salt onto the tray immediately. Pour the leftover salt into a container to reuse for future salt painting projects.
- Use a paintbrush or pipette to apply liquid watercolors (or solid watercolors from a palette) to the salted glue lines. Start with the pumpkin outline, then work on the face. Be aware that colors will bleed if they touch each other. Use green sparingly to avoid it bleeding into the orange.
