Transform a bar of Ivory soap into Halloween decorations by carving ghost and skull designs. Using everyday items like a plastic knife, paper clip, and paintbrush, you can sculpt simple shapes easily. This project is great for teaching kids about positive and negative space while making festive soap carvings.

Directions
- Remove the soap from its wrapper. Place the soap on paper and draw around it. Then sketch your design on the paper. Remind children to keep ghosts and skulls large because the tools are not very precise—big, simple shapes are easier to carve. This is a good moment to discuss positive (the object) and negative (the background) space.
- Cut out the paper template and lay it on the soap. Use a pencil to trace the outline. To contain the mess, work inside a dish or tray so soap fragments are collected.
- Begin carving. Each tool serves a different function: the pencil for marking details, the plastic knife for removing large chunks (scrape off the word 'Ivory' with the knife's back), the watercolor brush for clearing away small soap particles to reveal the design, and the paper clip for smoothing rough edges or carving out tiny bits.
