Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at thesprucecrafts.com.
These interactive sensory boxes are perfect for Halloween parties. Fill them with common household items disguised as ghoulish body parts, then guide children through a spooky story as they feel each mystery item. It's a fun and slightly scary activity that builds excitement without being too terrifying.
Directions
- Choose a container such as a tissue box, a small mailing box, or a shoe box.
- If using a shoe box, cut a hand-sized opening in the lid and secure the lid with tape.
- For other boxes, tape a piece of construction paper or fabric over the top to block the view inside.
- Line the inside with a plastic bag if you plan to include wet items like cooked spaghetti to avoid leaks.
- Place a spooky object in each box—for example, cooked spaghetti stands in for worms, and peeled grapes mimic eyeballs.
- If you like, cover the boxes with Halloween-themed wrapping paper for extra festivity.
- Prepare a creepy story that describes each item as something frightening, such as 'veins' or 'eyeballs,' to tell as you pass the boxes around.
- Act as the host: get into character, hand each box around, and let children feel the contents without peeking. Encourage hesitant kids gently, but never force them.
