This craft project transforms ordinary yarn and a few supplies into an adorable yarn monster. By wrapping yarn around cardboard and adding googly eyes and pipe cleaners, you create a shaggy creature with customizable features. Perfect for a Halloween DIY or a fun afternoon activity.
You'll need
Directions
- Collect the required items: various yarn colors, googly eyes in different sizes, pipe cleaners of assorted colors, scissors, and a piece of cardboard or thick paper. Decide on the main color for your monster.
- Cut the cardboard into a rectangle; its size will determine your monster's length. For a bigger creature, use a larger cardboard piece.
- Wrap your chosen yarn around the cardboard repeatedly until you reach the desired thickness. The more wraps you do, the fluffier the finished monster will be.
- Slide a pipe cleaner under the yarn loops at the top edge of the cardboard and tie it firmly to hold all the wraps together.
- While keeping the tied end secure, slip the yarn off the cardboard. Then cut through the loops on the opposite side of the tie to create a shaggy fringe.
- Select googly eyes for your monster—you can use big ones, small ones, or even several. Attach them with glue or by pressing onto the yarn near the top.
- The pipe cleaner you used for tying will become the antennae. Bend it into any shape you like—straight, curled, or zig-zagged. For extra fun, glue googly eyes onto the tips.
- If you wish, add more features using additional pipe cleaners, such as a mouth or arms. You can also incorporate a different yarn color for hair or other details.
- Finish by trimming any stray yarn and shaping your monster with scissors. Fluff it out, and your yarn monster is complete!
