Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at hgtv.com.
This DIY project shows you how to make oversized spiders using foam balls, spray paint, glitter, and pipe cleaners. The body is a glitter-coated foam ball mounted on a wooden round, with toothpick-mounted white foam ball eyes painted black. Legs are made from fuzzy black pipe cleaners, with the option to twist two together for extra creepiness.
You'll need
Directions
- Place a medium or large foam ball on craft paper or a painter's drop cloth to protect your work surface. Spray the ball completely with black spray paint, then immediately sprinkle black glitter over the wet paint. Allow the ball to dry fully.
- Use hot glue to attach the glittered foam ball to a wooden round; let the glue dry. For each eye, push a toothpick halfway into a small white foam ball, then insert the opposite end of the toothpick into the large glitter ball. Repeat for the second eye. Paint the eyes with black acrylic paint using a small brush, and let dry.
- Create the legs by using black fuzzy bump pipe cleaners. For extra creepiness, twist two pipe cleaners together. Push one end of each pipe cleaner into the foam ball, then bend them to form spider legs. These spiders are adorable! For a spooky backdrop, you can also make a spider web as shown in the video.
