This guide walks you through building a wooden stand, staining the components, and assembling a straw trivet base. You will then finish the piece by attaching wooden knobs and painting maple leaves to create a festive, pumpkin-inspired centerpiece.
You'll need
Directions
- Sketch your desired stand layout onto the craft wood, then send the pieces to be cut to size.
- Smooth all rough edges and corners on the cut wood with sandpaper to eliminate any splinters.
- Apply Honey-colored Minwax stain to the wood components and allow the finish to dry completely.
- Use a hot glue gun to attach the front support ledge directly onto the top surface of the base piece.
- Position the fall-colored straw trivet vertically against the front ledge, then secure a back ledge behind it with hot glue to keep everything standing straight.
- Treat the wooden knobs with wood conditioner, then attach them to the center of each trivet's top to act as the pumpkin stem.
- Mix matte green paint with terracotta paint, then brush this blend onto the small maple leaves to achieve a speckled, sage-green appearance for the foliage.
