Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at notimeforflashcards.com.
This recipe uses flour, salt, alum, oil, pumpkin pie spice, and boiling water to create a soft, aromatic playdough. Kids can mix, knead, add food coloring, and use fall cookie cutters. Store it in an airtight bag in the fridge for months.
You'll need
Directions
- First, gather all your supplies: separate the dry ingredients into individual bowls, get pumpkin pie spice, food coloring (optional), a cutting board, and fall-themed cookie cutters for playtime.
- Pour the flour into a large mixing bowl. Be careful not to let kids near it until you're ready to mix—my camera batteries died, and within two minutes flour was dusted everywhere.
- Add the salt to the bowl.
- Then add the alum.
- Pour in the oil.
- Sprinkle in the pumpkin pie spice—my son added a generous amount, and it still turned out great.
- Carefully pour the boiling water into the bowl (adults only—the water must be boiling, not just hot).
- Mix everything together until combined.
- Transfer the dough to a cutting board and knead it. Add food coloring at this stage if you want.
- Let the playdough cool for a few minutes.
- Start playing! Seasonal cookie cutters make it extra fun—ordinary playdough becomes special with these cheap cutters. Store the pumpkin pie playdough in a sealed ziplock bag in the fridge for months.
