You'll need
Directions
- Choose a fabric scrap for the scarecrow's shirt. For instance, you might pick a 6 inch by 4 inch blue and white buffalo plaid check print.
- Fold the fabric in half along its longer edge.
- With fabric scissors, cut the folded fabric into a shirt shape: sleeves on the open sides and a rounded neckline cut from the closed end.
- From scrap denim or another fabric, cut two strips. Also cut a rectangle and split it lengthwise down the middle to form the legs of the jeans.
- Flip the jeans over, fold the slit edges inward, and secure them with fabric glue or stitching.
- Cut a piece of burlap fabric for the hat.
- Shape the burlap into a cone and glue it to hold.
- Cut a circle from cardstock. Use the printable template to cut out eyes and nose, then glue them onto the circle. Draw a mouth with a black marker. Glue short yarn pieces to the top for hair.
- Take a long and a short popsicle stick (or cut a long one shorter). Glue the short stick horizontally across the top of the long one to make a cross.
- Put the shirt's neck opening over the top end of the long popsicle stick (above the crossbar).
- Adjust the shirt, then glue the jeans underneath so they slightly overlap the shirt's bottom.
- Glue the two fabric strips over the shoulders, one on each side. Then attach two small buttons where the strips overlap the jeans.
- Attach the cardstock head and burlap hat to finish the scarecrow.
