This tutorial shows you how to transform old books into eerie Halloween props. You'll glue decorations to the cover, cover it with damp paper towel and sealant, paint it black, then add metallic highlights for an aged, magical look.
You'll need
Directions
- Use hot glue to attach your Halloween decorations to the book cover. For a skeleton theme, snip the wings off a bat toy, glue those down, then place the skeleton on top. For extra detail, hammer thumbtacks into the corners.
- Separate a paper towel into a single ply, dampen it, and lay it over the entire book cover, pressing it over all the glued items. Brush Glue n' Seal over the paper towel, using a small paintbrush to push it into every crevice. Don't smooth it out—wrinkles and creases create a leather-like texture.
- Let the Glue n' Seal dry completely, then paint the whole book black. It will look unimpressive at this stage, but don't worry—the final step transforms it.
- Once the black paint is dry, apply metallic paint sparingly over the raised details. Dip your fingertip into a tiny amount of metallic paint or Rub n' Buff and rub it onto the highlights. A little goes a long way and really brings the book to life.
