PHOTO · FUNATHOMEWITHKIDS.COM

This DIY Halloween craft turns your child's handprints into a lasting spider memento. Using playdough and Plaster of Paris, you'll capture two overlapping handprints to form the body and legs. Once set, paint and add googly eyes for a fun, creepy-crawly decoration.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Roll or press the playdough into a flat layer atop a sheet of wax paper.
  2. Have your child raise their thumb, then help them push their four fingers and palm firmly into the dough to leave a deep impression for sturdy spider legs.
  3. Turn the wax paper around so the handprints overlap, and press the other hand's four fingers in the opposite direction.
  4. Combine Plaster of Paris with slightly less water than the package instructs.
  5. Carefully pour the plaster mixture into the handprint mold.
  6. After the plaster has hardened, turn the whole thing over and gently remove the playdough.
  7. Decorate the plaster spider with acrylic paints.
  8. Finish by attaching googly eyes.
